Optimising animal infusion:  With the Burtons Giving Set Range

Designed for accuracy, compatibility, and safety

When it comes to infusion therapy, the giving set is just as critical as the pump itself. At Burtons, we’ve chosen our range of giving sets to ensure the highest levels of accuracy, safety, and compatibility across veterinary applications.

Engineered for performance

The material composition of a giving set, particularly the Shore hardness (hardness of the tubing), directly affects how accurately fluids are delivered. Even the best-calibrated pump can deliver unreliable volumes if paired with an unsuitable giving set. That’s why Burtons giving sets are manufactured to meet exacting specifications and are fully compatible with our infusion pumps.

Each Burtons pump is pre-calibrated to work with our SuperBlue giving sets, which are designed with the ideal Shore hardness for optimal performance. This ensures infusion consistency, protects your pump’s internal components, and reduces the risk of inaccurate dosing.

Tested for precision

In our in-house performance testing, the SuperBlue giving sets consistently delivered fluids within a tight tolerance range. By contrast, cheaper or non-compatible sets previously showed deviations of up to ±40% and contributed to excessive strain on pump mechanisms, particularly in older or less powerful units. These results confirm what we already know: quality matters. Choosing the right giving set isn’t just about cost, it’s about reliability, repeatability, and long-term equipment protection.

Our Range of Giving Sets

All Burtons giving sets are built with high-quality tubing for full compatibility, meaning you can switch between options without the need to recalibrate — a feature unique to the Burtons range. Please note: Our Super Strength Giving Sets do not feature the blue pump indicator but are still of the same quality and same calibration as our new SuperBlue Range.

What's new about the Burtons SuperBlue Giving Sets?

The updated giving set range now includes a blue placement indicator — a clearly visible, translucent section that marks where the softer tubing begins and ends. This helps you easily identify the correct area to position the infusion pump. The blue tint is designed to be translucent, ensuring it won’t interfere with the pump’s sensors or performance.

They also now feature a rotating luer lock making connecting to an IV cannula much simpler. Traditionally the luer lock is fixed, meaning to secure the connection you would need to twist the entire line of the giving set. Our new rotating locks mean you can simply twist the connector without moving the rest of the line to secure in place.

Burtons SuperBlue Standard Giving Set

Our most widely used option, measuring at 2.91m total length, with a 2m blue  section for pump placement and providing 20ml/h rates with excellent accuracy. It includes 2 injection ports. These are ideal for short term infusions (1-2 days) and can be used with all infusion pumps as well as via a gravity feed.

Burtons SuperBlue Paediatric Giving Set

Slightly shorter in length, this set includes a single injection port and offers finer control for small or delicate patients. Often used with gravity delivery initially and then transitioned to a pump.

Burtons SuperBlue Standard Set with Needle-Free Valves

Offers two needle-free injection ports, designed to match our standalone needle-free valves. This enhances safety by reducing the risk of needle-stick injuries.

Burtons SuperBlue Coiled Set (5m)

Designed for walk-in kennels and large dogs, this set provides extended reach and flexibility, allowing animals to move comfortably without creating unwanted tension due to over-stretched giving sets, risking cannula patency and placement.

Smart Design Features Across All Sets

•    Roller Clamp for precise manual control.
•    C Clip Shut-Off for quick and easy flow stop.
•    Anti-Kink Sections to maintain flow integrity.
•    Rotating Luer Connector to minimise line twisting during attachment.
•    Translucent Blue Tubing designed to avoid interference with pump sensors.

In summary, choosing the right giving set isn’t just a matter of convenience; it’s critical for ensuring dosing accuracy, protecting equipment, and delivering safe patient care. With Burtons, you can count on a system that works together seamlessly.
